Malayalam cinema has become very popular, thanks to the OTT boom post-pandemic. Two Malayalam films that were released recently on OTT are making an impact on audiences all over the country.
Thankam, starring Biju Menon and Vineeth Srinivasan, starts by showing the lives of two men involved in a gold business in Thrissur which soon escalates to a crime investigation thriller culminating in a terrific climax and an acute character study of the main leads.
Syam Pushkaran’s script and Saheed Arafath’s direction make it a must-watch. The performances are also brilliant. As an investigative drama, Thankam is one of the best films in recent times.
Second is Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam starring Mammootty. Though the film is slow in parts, it is getting appreciation for Mammootty’s immersive performance in a dual personality which is masterfully done. The camera work is brilliant and contributes so much to the storytelling. If you like to watch films that act like slow poison, then don’t miss this one.
Thankam is streaming on Prime Video whereas Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam can be watched on Netflix.
