2022: The Worst Year For Bollywood

Bollywood 2022Bollywood would deliver at least a few 100-crore and a couple of 200-crore and 300-crore films every year to keep the industry alive. However, 2022 has been the worst year for Bollywood as one has seen the biggest films failing to attract audiences to the theatres.

Usually, Bollywood sees releases of all three Khans in one year. All of them have at least one big release. In 2022, only Aamir Khan had a release in Laal Singh Chaddha, and the film was a huge dud at the box office. Though trade pundits say it did moderately abroad, Indian audiences did not take to the remake of Forrest Gump. As for the other two Khans, it was a year of cameos for SRK. He impressed his fans with special appearances in Brahmastra, Rocketry, and even Laal Singh Chaddha. On the other hand, Salman Khan tried to gain some traction down South with Chiranjeevi’s Godfather, but the attempt fell flat.

Next, it was the turn of Akshay Kumar who doled out quite a few releases all of which ended up in losses which included Bachchan Pandey, Atrangi Re, Katputli, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu. However, there was nothing to write about them and Akshay’s big game plan fell flat.

Then there were films like Hrithik’s Vikram Vedha, Shahid Kapur’s Jersey, Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera, Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya, Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad… all of which failed to intrigue audiences.

Trade is hopeful that 2023 will be much, much better, and SRK’s Pathaan will start the year with a huge bang.
