Family films are meant to be watched with the entire family. But with ticket prices going up, can everyone afford to watch them in theatres?
Venkatesh and Trivikram’s Aadarsha Kutumbam: House No. 47 brings this issue into focus. The Andhra Pradesh government has permitted a ticket price hike for the film during its initial ten-day run. Multiplex tickets can cost up to Rs 252, while single-screen tickets can go up to Rs 200. In Telangana, the film is releasing at regular ticket prices.
When a family of four or five plans to watch a film, the ticket cost itself becomes a big expense. They still have to spend on travel, food and other things. With ticket prices going up, many families may simply decide to wait for the film’s OTT release instead of spending so much at theatres.
The industry keeps saying that family audiences need to return to theatres. But ticket price hikes are making that difficult. If watching a family entertainer with family costs so much, people may prefer to wait for its OTT release. The industry cannot keep asking families to come back to theatres while making that outing more expensive.
