Actresses in some big-budget films are often left with just a few scenes and a song, while the hero gets most of the attention. Yet many continue to accept such roles, especially early in their careers. Keerthy Suresh has now explained why she made that choice and what she gained from it.
In a recent interview, Keerthy said smaller roles in big films gave her exposure and helped more people notice her. She also explained that actresses need to establish themselves and prove their acting ability before getting opportunities to headline female-driven films.
Keerthy’s journey changed significantly with Mahanati, which brought her widespread recognition and showed that she could carry a film on her own. She now says she is being offered more important characters in her upcoming films with Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh.
There is a reason actresses do not always turn down smaller roles in big films. Sharing screen space with popular heroes can put them before a much larger audience and help them get noticed. But that visibility has its limits. If an actress keeps appearing in films where her character has little importance, audiences may never get to see what she can actually do.
Keerthy’s comments bring out this career dilemma. A small role in a big film may help an actress get noticed, but it cannot be the destination. The bigger challenge is finding roles that give her an identity beyond the hero she shares the screen with.
