At the recently concluded Filmfare awards for south, veteran Telugu filmmaker Bapu was awarded the lifetime achievement award after a long delay. Did this award come to him because he was presented with Padma Shri earlier this year or were there any genuine reasons?
Whatever the reasons may be but one would definitely feel the honor has come very late for a filmmaker, who has spent his career giving memorable films for us. I truly believe he should have been presented with the award long back.
The sad part is our government has discarded several legends over the years across all industries. It only honors actors who are still popular or those who went on to be politicians. For instance, Rajesh Khanna is now being lauded because he is no more but what about other wonderful actors such as Sanjeev Kumar.
There are so many thespians that deserve to be duly credited for their contribution. You don’t have wait until someone turns 80 to honor them, do we?
