Anantha Sriram, one of Tollywood’s most prominent lyricists, has found himself under intense scrutiny for his increasingly combative public remarks.

While film technicians are traditionally known to remain measured and neutral, Sriram’s recent outbursts across various movie promotions and success meets have left audiences questioning his professional conduct.

Netizens are openly debating whether these verbal volleys are an honest defense of his work or merely sycophancy aimed at pleasing specific industry bigwigs.

A Pattern of Controversial Outbursts

The shift in Sriram’s public demeanour has been marked by a series of high-profile altercations that have rubbished his image as a refined writer:

Targeting Veteran Personalities: Sriram drew widespread flak when he chose to take passive-aggressive digs at renowned spiritual orator Garikapati Narasimha Rao simply because the veteran was vocal about maintaining decorum during public gatherings.

Inability to Accept Lyric Criticism: When music lovers and critics questioned the depth of his bold “Vaaraniki Veyyi” lyrics for Peddi, Sriram failed to take the feedback constructively. Instead of addressing the critique gracefully, he retaliated on stage with derogatory references like “item gaallu,” lowering the bar for professional discourse.

Most recently, in an apparent bid to project his current project as superior cinema, Sriram took an implicit dig at  Balakrishna’s mass films. By declaring that true heroism isn’t about “hacking people to pieces or flying vehicles into the air” he unnecessarily alienated a massive veteran actor’s fanbase.

The Fine Line Between Defense and Disrespect

While every creator has the right to defend their art, Sriram’s strategy of tearing down others to elevate his current collaborations is causing severe friction.

By trivialising commercial genre tropes and insulting internet users, his behavior mimics the very online toxicity he claims to fight.

Industry observers note that if he continues down this path of using his stage time to stoke fan wars rather than celebrate cinema, the goodwill he built over two decades of beautiful songwriting could quickly evaporate.
