Anurag Kashyap is widely regarded as a cult director in Indian cinema. His films like Black Friday, Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur, Ugly, and Gulaal have changed the way audiences view movies.
But for the last few years, he has not been able to make a single memorable film. Ghost Stories, Chokes, Dobaaraa, and Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat turned out to be total duds.
However, he has also started acting in films. He made his debut in the South with Imaikkaa Nodigal which was a decent performance. He also acted in Leo in a meaningless role where he is shot dead without uttering even one dialogue.
His biggest acting breakthrough came with the recently released film Maharaja. Although Vijay Sethupathi shined, Kashyap also stole the show. After the film debuted on Netflix, his performance received widespread acclaim, particularly his haunting act in the climax scene.
Viral social media posts have praised Kashyap’s portrayal of Selvam in Maharaja.
If he continues to land good roles and improve his craft, Kashyap could become a huge asset to the film industry as an actor.
His journey from cult director to flop filmmaker to a most wanted actor is truly remarkable.
