It is Akkineni Nagarjuna’s birthday tomorrow, and on the eve of that, he met the scribes to share his views and plan for the future. One interesting thing that stood out in the chat was his opinion on bilinguals.

Nagarjuna says that bilinguals didn’t work for him. He says that he has been part of many films, but none have worked out in a big way. It is surprising considering he scored a significant success in Oopiri. However, when we look at the larger picture and the number of failures he had, we can’t help but agree.
The reason for failures according to Nagarjuna is that a director can handle the film in one language only. It seems reasonable as many bilingual films have had nativity issue in either of the languages. It does look like a strong reason why many highly anticipated big budget bilinguals have failed despite best names coming together.
