Burra Thakkuva Trolls On Family Star

Vijay Deverakonda’s The Family Star is headed for release on the 5th of April and the promotional campaign is underway for the film. As the promotional material is being dropped, there is a commotion on social media about the nature of the material that is being released.

When the teaser was released, there is a shot where Vijay, who is projected as a middle-class man grabs the petrol pump hose and makes sure he gets every last drop of petrol. Many netizens ridiculed that no middle-class man would do this at a petrol pump.

Then, when the makers dropped a new song from the album the other day, the visuals looked grand. Again, netizens started questioning which middle-class family would do such a costly and dreamy wedding.

Well, all of this social media commotion is a bit too overresponsive, we must say. Being a commercial film, Family Star will obviously take liberties in terms of presentation. There will be glamorizing and exaggeration of certain elements of middle-class life to make for a theatrical viewing.

Just because the film is based on a middle-class family, it doesn’t necessarily need to cover every aspect of middle-class livelihood, given that this is a commercial film and not a documentary. Moreover, expecting such petty logic from a commercial potboiler is not very wise. If we scrutinize on this grade point, then every Telugu commercial potboiler might have a thousand flaws.

The endpoint is that the aim of the Vijay and Parasuram collaborative project will be to entertain the audience this summer and not to get facts right about middle-class living. So, we must say the netizens who are picking out these reasons are reading too much into the promotional material.
