chennai-floods Chennai Rains IIFA south cinemaThe disaster that Chennai faced in the last few days is really heartening and saddening to see people and the city, literally in a pitiable helpless state. The loss done to both life and properties is humongous. In this scenario, a celebration like IIFA Utsavam with all the four South film industries doesn’t look good when people are suffering.

Hence the event which was supposed to happen in Hyderabad was postponed to a later date in January 2016. According to some media estimates, the loss due to this postponement is going to be around Rs.5 crores. The loss is obvious as all preparations like constructing sets for the venue and booking hotels for celebs were complete.

But for the organisers of the show, expressing solidarity for Chennai during these tough times is more important than counting on the losses. The show is going to happen, next year with a slight change in the concept which would include fundraising for the reconstruction of Chennai and help the Chennaities besides bringing all the four South Film Industries together on to a common dais.
