After scoring a very good first weekend, Prabhas’ magnum opus, Adipurush, has crashed at the box office. In Telugu states, it is still holding up at decent levels, but in the Hindi version, the film has dropped heavily on the weekdays.
After the kind of extreme negativity, mixed word-of-mouth, and online trolling the film faced, a huge fall in the collections was inevitable. If the first Monday collections had not fallen more than 50-55% of Friday collections, the film had all chances of hitting the 200-crore net mark just in the Hindi version.
But the collections are in a free-fall mode right now. Monday collected just Rs. 8 crores, and the Tuesday figures have come out somewhere around Rs. 6 crores. The first week of Adipurush from Hindi would land somewhere around 130-135 crores net.
Now all eyes are on the second weekend. The field is open, and there is literally no big competition. The theaters have no other option but to screen Adipurush. The trade expects that Adipurush will definitely pick up once again and post some decent numbers from the Telugu as well as the Hindi version. The second-weekend numbers will decide if the film can cross the 150-crore mark in the Hindi version and achieve break even in the Telugu states.
However, despite its underperformance, Adipurush will be seen as a positive film in Prabhas’ career in terms of the box office. Putting the unbelievable numbers of 400 crores worldwide gross on board while facing such extreme negativity is no mean feat.
