Court to Protect Naga Chaitanya’s Personality Rights

Naga Chaitanya court case update

The Delhi High Court has formally issued summons in a lawsuit filed by Telugu film actor Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, who is seeking urgent protection for his personality and publicity rights.

The actor approached the judiciary to halt the widespread, unauthorized exploitation of his name, voice, image, and digital likeness across various online platforms.

Presiding over the matter, Justice Jyoti Singh indicated that the court will pass an interim order to protect the actor’s individual rights.

The court also acknowledged a request for a “dynamic injunction,” a legal mechanism that would allow his team to promptly take down future infringing content without needing to repeatedly file fresh applications.

The legal action targets a broad array of digital violations. Naga Chaitanya’s counsel highlighted that his identity has been systematically weaponized in pornographic domain names, explicit metadata search tags, and unauthorized commercial merchandise.

A major concern raised during the hearing involves the misuse of artificial intelligence tools. Counsel flagged deepfake videos, voice-cloning software, and manipulated media creating false scenarios.

This includes defamatory YouTube videos targeting his personal life and past relationship, which his legal team emphasized crossed the line from fair criticism into deliberate online trolling.

Justice Singh observed that while public figures are inherently more vulnerable to public scrutiny, such exposure must have clear legal limits.

Tech platforms like Google and YouTube have been directed to file compliance affidavits, and the court will take up the interim applications for further consideration on September 30, 2026.
