The tax entertainment system in Karnataka is a bit different from other adjoining States like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. To patronize movies, the government had exempted Kannada movies totally from any kind of entertainment tax.

So, where is the huge entertainment tax coming from? It’s from non-Kannada movies. This year, non-Kannada movies like ‘Baahubali‘ and ‘Kabali’ earned an entertainment tax of Rs. 9 crores each from Bengaluru theaters alone. When the amount was summed up, the Karnataka government earned a total of Rs. 109 crores.
It’s not only Telugu movies, even Hindi and English movies are earning big bucks for Karnataka government as the non-Kannada speaking audiences (migrants’ population) crowd is comparatively higher in Bengaluru. Besides ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Kabali’, Hindi film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and English film ‘Fast and Furious’ earned big for the government.
