Guild Not To Interfere In Sankranthi

Dil Raju

As many as five films are going to clash at the box office for this Sankranthi. Mahesh Babu’s Gunturkaram, Venkatesh’s Saindhav, Ravi Teja’s Eagle, Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga, and Teja Sajja’s HanuMan are the five films.

Industry and the trade are worried about the clash of too many films being counter-productive.

Some films are risking big time without closing Non-theatrical deals to get the festival advantage at the box office.

Sankranthi can accommodate up to three films at max but five is like too many. M9 News asked Dil Raju who is the Film Chamber President and also the main man at the Guild about this. There are instances in the past where Guild stepped in and averted unnecessary clashes.

Dil Raju, however, says it is different.

“Guild worked in the past to avert clashes. But it does not apply to Sankranthi. Sankranthi is one season that can take multiple releases. We can not dictate producers to lose festival advantage. It is totally the prerogative of the producers,” Dil Raju said.

He further added, “I backed out of the Sankranthi race considering there are multiple releases. That is my decision. Like that, every producer will take their own decisions. We will take it that way”.

Meanwhile, Gunturkaram and Saindhav are comfortably placed in terms of having a good number of theaters. It will be difficult for the remaining releases. But at this moment, all the producers are not willing to bow down.

Not even a single producer is giving a hint that he will consider the decision to pull out.
