US Embassy in New Delhi and Consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai are flooding with applications of over 4,000 students who applied for visas to pursue education in the US. In Hyderabad alone, there were 900 applicants out of which only 14 were picked up at random and issued visas.

There are currently 103,000 Indian students studying in the US. 90,000 students applied for the visa from across the country over the last 12 months and 80 per cent of them were granted visas. In Hyderabad alone 21,000 student visas were issued in the last one year.
Officials say students who missed the visas are due to being dishonest or submitting false documents. Students who by-heart visa interview questions were also refused a chance. Officials ask aspiring students to refrain from approaching middlemen and brokers. Instead use the services of the US-India Education Foundation which provides free advice regarding visa application procedure.
