Come Ramzan month every year, all the roads in Hyderabad in pitch dark will lead to Old City. While the entire city sleeps, Old City bustles with activity as people rush in to do some shopping. While Muslim brothers break their fast and do the holy month shopping.

Over the years, Ramzan shopping became popular with non-Muslims too. Most of them rush to the Charminar area to taste Haleem, Pattar ka Ghosh etc. Besides food, new clothes and footwear to bangles, mehndi, ‘attar’ (natural perfumes), crockery, household items and vermicelli and dry fruits, everything is bought there.
This month shops, hotels in old city region may more business at nights than day. It is said that the night business this holy month will exceed 2000 Crore. About 30 percent of city’s population are Muslims.
Even NRIs who live abroad make it a point to visit home on Eid. The month signifies the harmony that exists between all the sections of people in the city and its rich cultural heritage.
