The trailer of Irumudi was out and is receiving a strong response. The emotional depth visible in the trailer appears to be one of its biggest strengths. If the film manages to live up to the trailer’s impact, it could turn out to be a major success for Ravi Teja.
However director Shiva Nirvana justification for the title of “Irumudi” in trailer launch event have now become a talking point. Shiva Nirvana explained that “Irumudi” represents multiple layers of the story, the bond between a father and daughter, the connection between an Ayyappa devotee and Lord Ayyappa, and the mystery surrounding a crime. He also clarified that the film is not essentially a devotional subject.
While the explanation attempts to give the title a broader meaning, it has left some Ayyappa devotees questioning its relevance. Many questioned the director if the title is meant to represent multiple knots why not call it “Trimudi” instead of “Irumudi”?
Against this backdrop, there could be concerns over whether Irumudi will face any hurdles during the censor process, especially since several film titles associated with Hindu deities have faced objections in recent times. Whether the title remains unchanged until its theatrical release is something we will have to wait and see.
But even if the title reaches theatres without any changes, the bigger question is whether Ayyappa devotees will be comfortable with the way “Irumudi” has been connected to the film’s story.
