Mohanlal’s anticipated Drishyam 3 directed by Jeethu Joseph was released in theatres on 21st May and has received mixed responses from both audiences and critics.
Despite the mixed responses, the hype for the third instalment and Jeethu Joseph’s partially engaging screenplay have worked well for the majority of the audience. Consequently, the film went on a rampage at the box office and has collected more than 200 crore worldwide.
Even though Drishyam 2 emerged as a successful venture at the box office, since its announcement, many people have criticised the makers for producing a third instalment for a franchise that travels solely on a single murder case because they felt it might end up as draggy and predictable to some extent.
While the audience was already triggered by the third instalment, Jeethu Joseph ended Drishyam 3 with a lead for Part 4 and because of it, some people started trolling Jeethu Joseph, claiming that it seems like the director has no intention to stop this franchise and wants to continue the Drishyam franchise until the end of his career.
Amongst all these trolls and criticisms, Jeethu Joseph himself in a recent interview has confirmed that the chances of making Drishyam 4 are very slim and he claimed that he will only make the fourth instalment if he gets a solid idea for it.
This statement from the director regarding the fourth instalment is receiving mixed reactions from the audience. While some feel that it is good that Jeethu Joseph should leave the Drishyam franchise and focus on doing other different stories, others feel the opposite.
They suggest that the Drishyam franchise deserves a proper ending; if Jeethu Joseph doesn’t have an intention to extend the story, then he should have concluded Part 3 with a proper ending, but he ended it with an open conclusion. Therefore, they claim that the director should make a fourth instalment and give a proper closure to George Kutty’s family.
