Kalki is the next big thing in Indian cinema considering its sheer scale and magnanimity. The film is headed for release on the 27th of this month and we are now hearing an interesting update on the runtime.
There are reports that the film has a run-time of 176 minutes which is slightly on the higher side. But considering the fact that this film is a big event sci-fi thriller, the lengthy run-rime is perhaps justified.
Incidentally, Nagi’s earlier film, Mahanati also had a very identical run-time of 2 hours 57 minutes. Mahanati anyway worked the trick and the run-time wasn’t an issue then.
Notably, Kalki is the kind of never-before attempt that it deals with futuristic topics that were never before scene on Indian screens.
To establish this premise and take the audience through an emotional ride, a certain run-time must be dedicated to the establishment part for the audience to acclimatize to the setting.
At the same time, there is the need to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats for the most part to make up for the elongated near-3-hour run-time. This is the challenge that Nagi will be facing as he must make sure that the audience is invested from start to end.
With Kalki having almost the exact same run-time as Mahanati, we have to wait and see if Nagi can repeat the Mahanati feat by letting his narrative overpower the long run-time.
