Most Delayed Film Finally Releasing: What Happened?

Karthi Vaa Vaathiyaar Pongal release

Karthi’s long pending film Vaa Vaathiyaar, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, is finally set for a theatrical release. After multiple postponements, the film will hit cinemas on January 14 as a Pongal special.

The release remained uncertain until recently due to a legal dispute involving Studio Green Productions over financial issues. Following a hearing, the Madras High Court cleared the film’s release, resolving all obstacles.

With legal hurdles cleared, advance bookings are expected to begin by this evening or night. Trade circles believe the clarity on release has boosted confidence among exhibitors and distributors ahead of the festive weekend.

Despite repeated delays, Vaa Vaathiyaar continues to enjoy strong buzz. The interest largely comes from Nalan Kumarasamy’s return to direction after an eight year gap, making the project significant for Tamil cinema audiences.

However, Nalan Kumarasamy recently stated that the film may not satisfy his core fan base. He explained that Vaa Vaathiyaar is aimed at the general audience and follows a mass commercial format, which disappointed some of his longtime followers.

A section of Karthi’s fans felt the statement was unnecessary. They believe openly admitting potential disappointment could impact the film’s box office performance during the crucial opening days.

Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi is reportedly heading towards a washout due to weak audience response. Trade trackers say even an average response could help Vaa Vaathiyaar dominate the Pongal box office.

The final outcome now depends on audience reception. Whether Vaa Vaathiyaar meets expectations and turns into a Pongal blockbuster will be known after its release on January 14.
