Karthi’s long pending film Vaa Vaathiyaar, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, was earlier expected to release last month. The release was postponed due to financial issues. So far, the makers have not announced a new release date.
Initially, two major films were lined up for this Pongal release. Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi were scheduled to arrive together. Due to censorship certificate issues, Jana Nayagan was postponed, leaving Parasakthi as the only confirmed release.
With the Pongal holidays usually accommodating two or three films, speculation has increased around Vaa Vaathiyaar. Reports suggest the team is making efforts to secure a Pongal release slot. The festive window is considered ideal for theatrical returns.
Sources also claim the film has completed the censorship process and received a U/A certificate. If the financial hurdles are resolved quickly, the makers are reportedly targeting a January 14th release. A final call is still pending.
However, a legal hurdle has emerged in the meantime. The Madras High Court has reportedly ordered a public auction of Vaa Vaathiyaar’s movie rights. This move aims to recover alleged dues of 21 crore and has halted the film’s release across platforms.
Social media reactions highlight the importance of this release window. Many feel missing Pongal could hurt the film’s prospects. Tamil Nadu enjoys a seven day holiday stretch during Pongal, with only Parasakthi releasing in Kollywood.
Supporters believe this festive period offers the best possible opening. They urge the Vaa Vaathiyaar team to resolve issues quickly and proceed with the release. The coming days will determine the film’s fate.
