Even though the Madras High Court delivered a favourable judgment for Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan earlier today, the situation changed quickly. The CBFC board filed an immediate appeal. This move turned the release plans upside down.
Vijay’s last film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was scheduled to release today. The release was postponed due to a delay in receiving the censorship certificate. The team then filed an emergency case against the CBFC at the Madras High Court.
The court initially ruled in favour of the film and directed the CBFC to issue a U/A certificate. However, the Central Board of Film Certification appealed the order immediately. The case was taken up again for a hearing this afternoon.
After the hearing, the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court stayed the single judge’s order. The court has now posted the matter for the next hearing on January 21st. Until then, the certification remains on hold.
Until yesterday, many believed the censorship issue would be resolved today. Fans expected Jana Nayagan to release smoothly for Pongal. Now, it appears the film will not be released before January 21st, pending further clarity after the next hearing.
The development has angered many Kollywood fans and Vijay supporters. They have criticised the censor board for filing an immediate appeal. Many believe the CBFC is deliberately delaying the release of Vijay’s farewell film.
The delay has also sparked political blame games. While the DMK was initially criticised, the party has now blamed the BJP and ADMK. They claim the delay is linked to Vijay refusing political alliances.
For now, the release date of Jana Nayagan remains uncertain. It is yet to be seen when the film will finally hit theatres. Whether it can overcome these hurdles and succeed at the box office remains an open question.
