Fourteen years have passed since the groundbreaking original film ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha’ hit screens, holding up mirrors to societal issues like honor killings, TV reality shows, sex video exploitation, and a pre-Me-Too narrative. It was a surprise success at the box office and collected twice its budget.

Its sequel LSD 2 was released in theaters this week to a shocking response.

While praised by discerning critics and aficionados of unconventional cinema, LSD 2 has faced outright rejection from mainstream audiences.

Opening day earnings hovered around 15 Lakhs, with a slight hike on the second day, but Sunday’s turnout is dismal. The weekend collections are projected to struggle to touch 75 Lakhs, with a total lifetime likely to fall short of 1 crore net.

That means not even 50,000 people would have watched the film in theaters in the whole of India, truly embarrassing.

LSD 2, much like its predecessor, delves into three distinct narratives, offering director Dibakar Banerjee’s commentary on contemporary internet culture.

The first chapter, ‘Like’, follows Noor, a transgender individual navigating their identity. ‘Share’, the second story, centers on Kullu, a transgender vlogger employed at a metro station. Lastly, ‘Download’ chronicles the story of a young gamer whose quest for online popularity leads to trouble.
