On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Silver Cast Creations announced a new film titled Maa Vande. Produced by Veer Reddy M and directed by Kranthi Kumar, the movie will feature Malayalam actor-producer Unni Mukundan as Narendra Modi.
This is the second biopic based on the Prime Minister’s life. It will trace important milestones in his political and personal journey, while placing special focus on his relationship with his late mother Heeraben.
The announcement has triggered mixed reactions online. Many social media users argued that Unni Mukundan may bag a National Award before senior Malayalam stars like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Fahadh Faasil, Dulquer Salmaan, Tovino Thomas, Jayasurya, and Nivin Pauly. Some suggested that his choice of film, which appears to align with the ruling party’s agenda, might influence jury decisions. Others questioned the credibility of the National Awards, claiming that audiences have lost faith in what was once a prestigious institution.
Movie enthusiasts also warned that Maa Vande could face the same criticism and trolling as Vivek Oberoi’s PM Narendra Modi, if it performs poorly at the box office. At the same time, the focus on Modi’s mother has raised speculation that the film may be an attempt to counter recent slurs directed at the PM during a rally in Bihar.
Although announced today, the film is scheduled for a 2026 release. It will be dubbed and released in multiple Indian languages, including English.
