In response, Mehreen defended her performance, explaining that a particular scene depicting marital rape was misconstrued as a sex scene by some on social media.

She emphasized the gravity of the marital rape portrayal, expressing her concern that it had been wrongly labeled. Mehreen urged people to recognize the seriousness of the issue, as many women worldwide face such trauma.
Mehreen’s perspective is indeed valid; such scenes should aim to raise awareness and provoke discomfort rather than titillate the audience. While her intentions were likely noble in depicting the horror of marital rape, the execution of the scene may inadvertently give the impression that the director is attempting to seduce the viewers.
