Musi earns national level shame for Hyderabad!

musi river polluted river in indiaMusi River or perhaps the people in Hyderabad had earned national level shame for the historic city. A report of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) confirmed that Musi is one of the most polluted rivers in the country.

Samples were collected from rivers across the country and tested for the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) in them. While the ideal BOD in a river can be up to 3 mg per liter, Musi’s numbers are close to 34 mg/l. According to experts, no fish can survive in these waters.

Interestingly, there is an even more polluted river in Telangana than Musi, the BOD levels in river Nakkavagu of Medak district are even higher – 50 mg/l. Sadly cleaning of Musi seem to be least priority to the government as it directed to make arrangements for the Kukatpally nala – which contains industrial effluents – to be diverted into the Musi in a bid to clean up the Hussainsagar.
