After a successful SR Kalyanamandapam, Kiran Abbavaram’s consequent films turned into huge disasters. None of the films even garnered a decent initial at the box office, forget about recovering costs.
His recent film Nenu Meeku Baaga Kaavalsinavaadini sank without a trace and is now ready to premiere on OTT platforms. There are reports that the team got a decent offer from a leading OTT platform for a direct-to-OTT release but the ‘greedy’ makers rejected it and went for a theatrical release expecting a bigger revenue.
According to the reports, now the film is releasing on Prime Video and Aha on a pay-per-view basis. The streamer will pay the makers as per the views.
It is a lesson for all the makers that they should realize and gauge the performance of their film in a realistic manner to survive. It’s delusional on the part of the makers to make a B-grade product and then expect the public will come in hordes to watch the film in theaters.
