Despite decent box office returns, it cannot be denied that Adipurush had to face never-before negativity, and the flak it got from extreme right-wing organizations is insane. It has no doubt affected the film’s longevity at the box office.
Now Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari is coming up with his version of Ramayana on a never-before-scale. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are almost finalized to play Rama and Sita in this version which is going to be produced by Madhu Mantena.
The film isn’t announced yet, and already the film is facing tremendous trolling from Hindu extremists who feel Ranbir Kapoor and Alia are unfit to play the devotional roles of Rama and Sita. They say Ranbir is unfit to play Lord Rama because he eats beef, which he himself accepted during an interview a decade ago. They say they cannot accept Alia playing Sita because she has done very glamorous roles in the past and also the role of a prostitute in Gangubai Kathiawadi.
It is true that unless the director designs and projects the characters brilliantly, like SS Rajamouli, it is difficult for a normal moviegoer to accept any star who has an image in the role of Rama or Sita. Despite being good actors, they fail to communicate the pureness and divinity that are so required in portraying such roles.
Adipurush somehow battled the negativity till the first weekend due to Prabhas’ star power, but if Ranbir-Alia’s Ramayana is going to face such flak, the film will not be able to even see a release in theaters. The makers might even shelve the project if such trolling continues.
