Peddi: Telugu Career Over for Janhvi Kapoor?

Janhvi Kapoor in Peddi controversy

Did Peddi end up costing Janhvi Kapoor her Telugu career, or even her larger South Pan-India prospects?

It may be too early to make that conclusion, but the extreme backlash around the character, the negativity it generated, and the criticism directed at the director for portraying her in that manner are certainly not encouraging signs.

The reality is that the film industry runs on perception, sentiment, superstition, and risk calculation.

Fair or unfair, actors can end up carrying the baggage of how audiences react to a role.

Because of that, any big Telugu star or director considering Janhvi Kapoor for a big Pan-India project may now think twice and ask whether taking that risk is worth it, especially if this character continues to define public perception.

What makes the situation unfortunate is that much of this appears to be beyond her control.

The criticism is largely centered around the writing, characterization, and execution rather than her individual effort as an actress.

That leaves Janhvi in a most difficult position. The best way forward may be landing a strongly author-backed role and delivering a memorable performance that completely changes the narrative around her.

But that may not be easy. Commercial South films still tend to offer limited space for female characters, and genuinely performance-driven roles remain relatively rare.

That is why, at least for now, the road ahead looks challenging for Janhvi Kapoor.
