Dhurandhar Part 1 and 2’s massive success has brought veteran actor Rakesh Bedi back into the spotlight in a big way. But what many people may not know is that his connection to Telugu cinema goes back many years, and it even ties him to stars like Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja.
If we go into early 90s, Chiranjeevi’s blockbuster Gang Leader was later remade in Hindi as Aaj Ka Goonda Raj. In that film, a young Ravi Teja appeared as one of the friends in the hero’s group. Rakesh Bedi, on the other hand, played a very important emotional role, the innocent friend in the gang.
In the original Telugu version, this role was played by Narayana Rao. It is a character that carries a lot of emotional weight, especially towards the climax. There is a powerful moment where the character, just before dying, reveals an important truth to the hero. In the Hindi version, Rakesh Bedi performed this scene with strong emotion and intensity. He had more dialogues in that portion, and his performance left a lasting impression.
Even though Rakesh Bedi has been part of the industry for over four decades and has worked in many films and TV shows, he never really got the kind of recognition in cinema that matched his talent. He became well known through television, but films did not give him that one big breakthrough, until now. Dhurandhar has completely changed that.
Because of the film’s massive success, his career has taken a new turn. He is now getting many more offers, and it is being said that his pay has increased almost five times. What is interesting is that filmmakers from Tamil and Telugu industries have also approached him with new opportunities.
Now, the big question is whether Rakesh Bedi will return to South Indian cinema after all these years or continue focusing on Hindi films.
