Technology has advanced at lightning speed. With that progress has come a new kind of danger for actresses. Fake social media accounts, morphed photos, edited videos and now AI generated obscene content have become a serious threat to female celebrities. People misuse actresses’ names and face to spread lies and create fake identities. Some even run scams.
This problem is not new. In the past, actresses like Shriya Saran, Aditi Rao Hydari and Shruti Haasan went through similar harassment. Fake pages were created using their pictures. Those accounts spread wrong movie updates, false statements and even promoted WhatsApp numbers pretending to belong to them. Many of these actresses said they felt anxious and unsafe because strangers were impersonating them online. Cybercrime teams eventually intervened and shut those fake profiles down.
Now the latest target is Rakul Preet Singh. Someone has been circulating a fake WhatsApp number, written as 8***067586, using her photos and claiming it is her personal number. Rakul filed a complaint with the Cybercrime department and warned her fans not to fall for it. She posted, “This is not my WhatsApp number. Please do not message or speak to this person. Block the number immediately.” She also shared screenshots showing a WhatsApp group created in her name.
On the work front, Rakul’s recent release De De Pyaar De 2 has turned out to be a below average fare at the box office. She is also keen on making a strong comeback in South Indian cinema. She is waiting for the right opportunities to come her way.
