Pawan Kalyan‘s ex-wife Renu Desai has strongly slammed the killing of street dogs and expressed her anger over the Supreme Court verdict that allowed such actions. She spoke at the latest press meet held at the Hyderabad Press Club.
Renu Desai questioned the logic behind killing dogs in the name of public safety. She said that if dog bites are being used as a reason to kill animals, then the same logic should apply to many other issues as well. She asked whether vehicle manufacturing companies are shut down because people die in road accidents, or whether all mosquitoes are killed because people die due to mosquito bites. She also asked if all men should be punished because crimes like rape happen, or if liquor shops are closed because drunk driving causes accidents.
She pointed out that only a small percentage of dogs are aggressive, and it is completely unfair to kill all street dogs because of the actions of a few. According to her, if five out of a hundred dogs show aggression, punishing the remaining ninety-five makes no sense. She said anyone can easily find statistics online showing daily deaths from road accidents, mosquito borne diseases, and other causes. Yet anger is selectively directed only at dogs.
Renu Desai also alleged that around 400 sterilized dogs have already been killed in and around Hyderabad without any valid reason. She said these animals are being targeted because they do not have a voice to defend themselves. She questioned how it is just to kill hundreds of dogs for the mistake of one.
She further stated that if there are genuinely rabid or dangerous dogs, authorities should hand them over to animal welfare groups. She added that she would personally take responsibility for their care.
Renu also spoke about her social service, saying she has been helping orphaned children for years without ever publicizing it. She said she personally ensures food for children who ask for it. Finally, she questioned how many people who speak loudly against street dogs actually help fellow human beings in need.
Her statements have sparked debate, with many supporting her stand on animal rights and others questioning public safety concerns.
