Back in 2015, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay was fined Rs 1.5 crore by the Income Tax department. This was because he didn’t account the Rs 15 crore remuneration he took for Puli film then.
Reportedly, Vijay declared Rs 35 crore in earnings in 2015 but he didn’t declare the Rs 15 crore remuneration he took for Puli. When the IT department fined him for the same, he approached the high court, which then passed a stay order on the fine imposed by the IT department.
The court had asked the IT department to file a report on why Vijay was fined the said amount and the case came to hearing yesterday – 11 October.
The IT department filed a detailed report on why they fined Vijay the said amount and submitted the same to the High Court today. The court will verify the facts and pass the judgment accordingly. The next hearing has been pushed to 30 October.
Will the high court cancel the IT department’s order and allow Vijay to get away without any fines, or will they uphold the IT order? We shall wait and see.
