Yash’s Toxic has run into an unexpected problem just days after its release. The film took over IMAX screens across India on August 26, pushing Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey out after its impressive 40-day run. Now, the situation has changed again.
Several IMAX screens have started bringing The Odyssey back, with more expected to follow. The development comes after Toxic reportedly failed to maintain strong occupancy in the premium format.
The timing makes the development particularly interesting. The Odyssey was still attracting audiences even after more than a month in theatres. On its 40th day, the film reportedly recorded 43 percent occupancy across IMAX screens and had collected around Rs 90 crore from the format alone.
Toxic arrived with huge expectations and took over the premium screens, but the response has been mixed to negative. As a result, exhibitors are now making room again for Nolan’s film, which has once again started trending on BookMyShow.
Interestingly, some non-premium screens in North India are also reportedly replacing Toxic with Awarapan 2 where the occupancies are not up to expectations.
For Toxic, losing IMAX screens so soon after release is certainly not the kind of development the makers would have wanted.
