“My Uterus & Periods Have Become Used to Fight Scenes”

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar interview about fight scenes

Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar recently shared a very honest and slightly funny experience from her time on film sets while promoting her new movie Saraswathi. During an interview, she spoke about a strange pattern she has noticed during shooting schedules. Many of her toughest action scenes seem to happen on the same days she gets her period.

Varalaxmi said, “My periods always sync with fight sequences. My uterus has become used to that.” She said this has happened so many times during different films that it almost feels like a running joke now. According to her, whenever a period starts, members of the crew sometimes jokingly assume that a fight sequence will probably be filmed that day. She laughed about how her body has almost become used to it because of how often it has happened during shoots.

But behind the humor, she also made a serious point. Varalaxmi said that menstruation should not automatically be treated as a reason to stop working or avoid responsibilities. In her view, women are capable of handling discomfort while continuing their professional work, especially when they are committed to what they do. She explained that she has often performed demanding action scenes despite being on her period because that is simply part of the job.

Her comments were also meant to highlight how much physical endurance many women show in everyday life. She pointed out that people often say women are stronger than men because they can tolerate significant physical pain, including menstrual cramps, while still managing their work, household responsibilities, and daily routines.

After the interview clips started circulating online, the topic quickly spread across social media and sparked mixed reactions. Some people appreciated Varalaxmi’s honesty and felt her comments encouraged a confident message about women continuing to work despite discomfort. Others trolled her remarks she is just pushing her feminist agenda by talking about such private things.
