Sundeep Kishan needs the Telugu audience more than ever. But the promotional push for Sigma feels so muted in the market where he is still trying to rebuild his position.
Sigma has a strong curiosity factor. It marks Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, and being Vijay’s son automatically gives the film attention in Tamil Nadu. The film is also releasing in Telugu and Tamil on October 2, putting Sundeep in a crucial position during a crowded release period. Yet the Telugu campaign has not created the kind of aggressive buzz one would expect from a film carrying this much curiosity.
This becomes more important because Sundeep Kishan is not coming into Sigma with a guaranteed Telugu market. Despite having built his career in Telugu cinema, he is struggling to maintain consistent commercial momentum in recent years.
Sundeep himself recently admitted that he actively looks for films in Telugu, while opportunities come to him more naturally in Tamil.
That makes Sigma a film he cannot afford to take lightly. The Jason Sanjay factor can bring initial curiosity, but curiosity alone will not guarantee a Telugu opening. With AK47 also targeting October 2 and other major releases competing for attention, Sigma needs visibility and urgency among Telugu audiences.
Sundeep has the experience and the connections to know how important Telugu promotions are. If the film wants to turn Jason’s name into theatrical advantage, the Telugu audience has to feel that Sigma is an event worth watching.
After years of trying to establish himself as a dependable Telugu lead, treating that audience as an automatic market could be a costly gamble.
