Recent Tamil film Tourist Family had a dream run in theatres as it generated multiple times profits for the buyers. Currently streaming on JioHotstar, the film is generating largely positive reviews.
Coming to the technical side of things, this film does not have extraordinary production values, or lavish spending. It is simply a heart warming, social drama with a strong emotional core.
The emotions are played to perfection while the fund that has been generated through the main characters also works in most parts.
This brings us to the question on why Tollywood is unable to make a film like Tourist Family.
This isn’t like a direct comparison between Telugu and Tamil cinema or anything. But at the heart of it, it would be so warming to see a proper Telugu film with such simple emotions and touching narrative told in a simple manner.
There is no touching Tollywood when it comes to making a pan Indian grandeur films which rule the Indian cinema scene. But at the same time, there is also scope for light hearted and warm films like Tourist Family.
Back in the day, there was this notion that the Telugu audience would not encourage films like these. But in the current OTT era, it is evident that the Telugu audience are also in increasingly receptive of such quality films.
We might not even remember the last time when we saw such a film from Telugu cinema scene, and this trend needs to change quickly and effectively.
