Amaravati-Hyderabad Expressway to Start!

The work on Amaravati-Hyderabad greenfield expressway are set to begin. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given directives for the concerned department to come up with a holistic report.

Soon, approvals for Amaravati ring road and Hyderabad regional ring north side will come and the process will be kick-started. The Union Home Minister had a meeting with officials on March 3 and took some key decisions. Some issues that were not part of the Act, got a go-ahead due to this. In the meeting with Union Home Secretary on Feb 3, officials from various ministries, chief secretaries from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and other related officials attended in huge numbers.

Various issues in the Division Act were discussed and the chief secretaries of AP and Telangana gave presentations on unresolved issues between the two states. Following this, the Union government took some key decisions.

It was also decided that they will meet once in every two months. It was during this meet that the decision for Amaravati-Hyderabad greenfield expressway highway was taken.

The Home Ministey asked for road and surface transport officials to come up with a complete report at the earliest.

In AP, greenfield refinery cum petro chemical complex will be coming up. The Home Ministry directed the Petroleum ministry to assess the feasibility of a second refinery. Meanwhile, the Railway Board announced that the works on Vizag railway zone will start in two years. Vizag, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Kurnool corridor is under consideration, the Board said.

The process for grant of Rs 350 crore for backward districts has also been started. Work at Duggarajapatnam Port will be started at the earliest, said the Ports and Shipping department.

The Home Ministry directed that issues between AP and Telangana need to be resolved by various ministries. The division of AP Finance Corporation will take place after the High Court stay is lifted, the Home Ministry said.

For some issues that are stuck in Court, it was decided that Attorney General’s advice would be taken. 12 organizations that had no guidelines will be handled by the Home department. The monies that AP got under combined Andhra Pradesh have been directed for CAG’s perusal.

The money spent by Telangana will also be referred to CAG.

The AP Agricultural University already got Rs 135 crore, the agriculture department officials said. Hence, AP’s request for PUSA south is under consideration, the agriculture department shared.

The Vijayawada and Vizag airports already have international connectivity. The expansion works will start soon, said the Airports Authority of India chairman.

Amaravati ring road will have 6 lanes and 70 Mt width as was planned initially. It will get cabinet approval in 4 days, the road and surface transport department said.

Vijayawada-Anantapur express highway, Vijayawada-Vizag Metro line, and Amaravati railway connectivity are at various stages of progress.

At the meeting, Telangana was told to take up the issue of Rs 2700 crore grant for backward states, with Niti Ayog. They also made it clear that a steel plant is not possible in Khammam. The Telangana government can consider going ahead through a private party, the steel ministry said.

The concerned officials also updated on north and south parts of Hyderabad Regional Ring Road. Hyderabad, Srisailam elevated corridor is in the process of getting final approval, the officials shared.

The process on Hyderabad- Kalvakurti highway have also begun, the officials said.

The Hyderabad-Vijayawada 6 lane highway has already started, the officials said. The Home Minister advised to speed up the works. The officials also shared that works on Hyderabad Manneguda highway have also started.

The railway department shared that extensive railway projects were taken up in Telangana.

In the next meet, it was decided to discuss Polavaram project, Greyhounds Center and establishment of educational institutions.




Such meetings will be held every two months to iron out the issues between both states, said the Home Ministry officials.
