The stance of YSR Congress leaders on Amaravati continues to surprise many. Despite the people’s clear mandate in favour of the capital, senior party leaders remain in denial.
What makes this more striking is that even leaders from Krishna and Guntur districts, whose constituencies would directly benefit from Amaravati, are taking the same stand. The latest in line is Sattenapalli MLA Ambati Rambabu.
Earlier today, Ambati posted a picture showing a large water body with SRM University in the background, suggesting that Amaravati is submerged. While the photo is real and not morphed, the claim is misleading. The water body seen in the picture is simply a canal beside SRM University at Neeru Konda.
As a former Water Resources Minister, Ambati should have known this. Netizens quickly countered his post using Google Maps screenshots, exposing the propaganda. Yet, Rambabu has refused to delete the tweet, raising questions about his intentions.
The bigger concern lies in how YSR Congress leaders from Krishna and Guntur districts plan to seek votes in 2029 with such a stance. In 2019, they convinced voters by claiming support for Amaravati. This time, people are better informed, and the party leaders are openly displaying their opposition.
