Women in Andhra Pradesh can start availing free bus services from August 15 evening. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will launch the Stree Shakti scheme at 3.30 pm on Friday in Mangalagiri. The scheme is aimed at easing the travel costs for women and reducing the financial pressure on poor families.
The initiative will help women across the state commute for free, supporting their access to education and employment opportunities. With its launch, the alliance government will fulfil another of its Super Six guarantees, adding Andhra Pradesh to the list of states like Telangana and Karnataka that already offer similar benefits.
The state government has made detailed preparations to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme. Clear guidelines have been issued on the buses that will offer free travel, which include palle velugu, ultra palle velugu, city ordinary, metro express and express buses. Some bus types will not be part of the scheme.
APSRTC depots have upgraded their infrastructure to manage the expected increase in passengers. Authorities anticipate a significant rush in the first three months, especially as many women will make use of this new travel benefit.
