The Government of Andhra Pradesh has officially established “AP-FIRST” (Andhra Pradesh Future Innovation, Research, Science & Technology) as a Section 8 company. This initiative creates a structured ecosystem designed to accelerate technology commercialization across the state.
Backed by an initial seed capital of ₹5 crore, the program marks a shift from simple job creation to active intellectual property (IP) generation. It utilizes existing infrastructure at premier institutions like IIT-Tirupati and IISER-Tirupati to bypass long delays.
The strategic vision focuses on high-value, deep-tech frontiers such as semiconductor technology, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. AP-FIRST is designed to fund, incubate, and scale home-grown startups in these critical domains.
By bridging the gap between state departments and research scholars, the platform aims to turn scientific concepts into market-ready applications. This ensures that academic breakthroughs are no longer confined to university laboratories.
To ensure scalability, AP-FIRST is exploring convergence with Central government initiatives, including the proposed ₹1 lakh crore national Research, Development, and Innovation Fund. This strategy moves the entity toward long-term financial self-sufficiency.
By coordinating with national missions and private entities, the state aims to build a competitive innovation hub. This systematic approach positions Andhra Pradesh to transform academic output into high-yield, native technical solutions.
