AP Govt Plans Satellite Townships @ Tier II Cities

Andhra Pradesh plans satellite townships

The Andhra Pradesh government has ambitious plans for Amaravati as the state capital but is also prioritising decentralised growth. To achieve this, the state has now decided to develop theme-based satellite townships around Tier II cities.

As per the plan, new townships will be built around Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, Vijayawada, Guntur, Kakinada, Nellore, Tirupati, Kurnool and other locations. Each township will focus on themes such as health care, tourism, industries and IT.

The government has sought Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre for this initiative. Officials believe these satellite townships will bring balanced growth across districts, reduce migration pressures, and create new employment opportunities.

One of the key issues during the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh was that development was concentrated in Hyderabad. During his term, Jagan Mohan Reddy tried the concept of three capitals, but the plan failed. Now, CM Chandrababu Naidu aims to deliver growth with satellite townships, which reflect people’s aspirations and ensure opportunities across the state.
