Central government seems to be finally moving over the water issues plaguing both the Telugu States. Union Water Resources Ministry Special Officer wrote letters to the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu States for a meeting. The Center proposed three dates – September 11th, 18th, and 19th and asked both of them to finalize a favorable date.

In the meeting, both the Chief Ministers will discuss the Palamuru – Rangareddy and Dindi Lift Irrigation Projects. Andhra Pradesh is alleging that Telangana government is taking up these projects without DPRs and without taking necessary permissions. The issue reached courts as well. The Telangana government claims that these projects were approved during United State and need no permissions. But AP government says that these projects are redesigned and will need fresh permissions. Further, Kiran Kumar Reddy back then only gave G.O.s for the survey of the projects but not for their construction.
The Apex Court supported Andhra argument in this case. Supreme court maintained that these projects do not come under Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act and have to be ratified by the Apex Council formed with the officials of the center and both the Telugu states, before constructing. The court also added that any project in future had to be constructed only with the permission of the Apex Council. Accordingly, the center announced this meeting.
