Telugu Desam Party’s decision to not to contest in Badvel By-election comes as another Blunder by Chandrababu Naidu.
The party had put up a good show in Tirupati By-election and this is another opportunity to hit the ground and rejuvenate the cadre but the opportunity is lost now.
Elections are two and a half years to go. Chandrababu Naidu has two inspirations in front of him. There is Trinamool Congress which has taken over Modi and Shah head on and cruised to a historic victory in West Bengal elections.
There is another example in the form of Congress at the national level. Congress has been in a kind of deep slumber ever since 2014. The party is doing very little to impress the people.
It is only hoping for the anti-incumbency to mount on Modi Government some day and bring them down.
So basically, Chandrababu Naidu has to choose between doing something or waiting for something to happen. The second option will have too much of risk and can backfire as well.
A regional party like TDP can not afford to sit in the Opposition for two consecutive terms like how it is for Congress. It is time for Chandrababu to make the right choice.
The option he chose for skipping Badvel By-election is something resembling the second option.
