Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for setting up of the Steel Plant at Kadapa a little while ago with a proposed investment of 18,000 crores in the first phase and Rs 15,000 Crores in the second phase to generate 10,000 employment. The Steel Plant was promised to Andhra Pradesh in the Reorganization Act but the center denied subsequently.

So, the State Government has come forward to establish the Steel Plant itself. Naidu laid the foundation stone this morning. The steel plant will come up at Kambaladinne village of Mylavaram Mandal in Kadapa. The State Government has identified around 4000 Acres for this Project which was supposed to change the face of the backward Rayalaseema region.
The Geological Survey of India estimated that more than 250 MT of good quality iron ore is available for the Steel Plant. The State Government is toying with the idea of roping in a foreign entity as a technology partner. It will be a real challenge to the Cash-Strapped state to complete this Mega Project with its own funds but with an able administrator like Naidu, we can never say impossible.
