Costco Not Opening a Store, But a Tech Hub in Hyd

Costco Not Opening a Store

In a follow-up to our earlier report about Costco’s potential entry into Hyderabad’s retail scene, here’s a clarification: the U.S.-based wholesale giant is not opening a warehouse store – at least not yet.

Instead, Costco will be setting up its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, focused on technology and research operations.

The centre is expected to initially employ around 1,000 people, with plans to scale up over time.

While our earlier story speculated on Costco’s retail foray into India, this development is more aligned with how global brands are leveraging India’s growing GCC ecosystem.

Hyderabad has already emerged as a major GCC hub alongside Bengaluru, hosting names like McDonald’s, Heineken, and Vanguard Group.

So, while Costco fans in India might not be lining up Costco Pizza slice just yet, this move is still a big deal — strengthening Hyderabad’s global tech footprint and possibly setting the stage for future retail ambitions.

We’ll continue tracking this story for any updates on a potential store in the future.
