Gajuwaka is a VIP constituency in the 2019 elections after Janasena President Pawan Kalyan has contested from there. Thippala Nagi Reddy from YSR Congress has emerged as a Giant Killer over Pawan Kalyan.
Pawan Kalyan had lost from Bhimavaram as well. Nagi Reddy hoped for a cabinet berth but was refused in both the cabinet rejigs.
What is more shocking is that there are reports that Nagi Reddy may be refused a ticket in 2024.
Gajuwaka is an industrial segment due to the presence of the Steel Plant. There is a talk among the locals that the local MLA and the ruling party have done very little to stop the privatization of the steel plant.
Kapu and Yadava communities are decisive factors in the constituency. Their votes have split between Janasena and TDP. The vote gap between TDP and Janasena is only around 1500 in 2019.
BCs rallied with YSR Congress giving a big win to Thippala Nagi Reddy. Thippala lost in 2009 and 2014. The sympathy also worked.
The age factor is also working against Thippala Nagi Reddy. His sons are also not so active politically. If there is an alliance between TDP and Janasena, TDP’s Palla Srinivasa Rao is likely to win easily.
In case TDP and Janasena contest together, YSR Congress is planning to field MLC Vamsi Krishna Srinivas Yadav.
But then, YSR Congress’s victory will also depend on the support of Nagi Reddy to the candidate. That will be a big question.
