Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad turns into a ‘Gold Smuggling adda’. In the last two days, almost 12 kgs of gold has been seized. This was found with three women who were coming from Singapore to Hyderabad, with their bags packed with gold. As it is illegal to carry gold from other countries, they were filed charges. This is not the only such incident; many such gold smuggling incidents happened in this airport since last year.

Many smugglers have been smuggling gold from other countries and are making deals in the Shamshabad airport. Gold bars are being hidden behind belts, in pants and also inside the soles of the shoes. The security forces have many-a-times caught many smugglers from transferring gold, arrested them and also filed cases against them. Sometimes, gold worth many crores gets smuggled in just one month; imagine how much worth of gold gets transferred in an year.
As per the investigation reports, Police are suspecting that the gold is coming from Dubai, though they are not completely sure. The main reason to suspect Dubai is that the gold rate there is bit cheaper than in India, therefore many jewellers and smugglers are smuggling gold into India, from there. Not just Dubai, Singapore and Thailand are two hot spots for smuggling too. Although other valuables are also being smuggled, Gold is the main thing. Even after the police are trying hard to stop this, still lots of smuggling is happening.
