Earlier this week, an Indian-origin man, Sharan Karunakaran, was arrested in Canada for allegedly yelling death threats and religious slurs, and trying to run over the public in a mosque.
The York regional police got a call for a disturbance at a mosque on Denison Street last week. The police responded to the call immediately and witnesses reported that a male suspect drove directly at one of the worshippers and yelled threats and religious slurs.
Incidentally, the suspect drove dangerously in the parking lot before leaving the premises. Investigators at the York Regional Police have charged the suspect with several criminal offenses after a suspected hate-motivated incident in the city of Markham.
Right now, efforts were on to arrest him after he has been identified. However, later, he was arrested in Toronto. The person was identified as Sharan Karunakaran, 28, of Toronto. He has been held for a bail hearing and his next appearance in court is on April 11, 2023.
