Today, Chandrababu Naidu presented a white paper on the Excise department in the state assembly, exposing YCP’s corruption.

In 2019-20 when TDP left the government, the per capita consumption of liquor was 5.55 litres. After YCP came into power, Jagan said that he would decrease liquor consumption by increasing alcohol prices but instead, it increased in the last five years.

In 2020-21, the per capita consumption was 3.37 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It increased again in 2021-22 to 4.79.

The per capita consumption of alcohol increased significantly in 2022-23 to 6.03 litres. In 2023-24, it reached 6. 23 litres.

Chandrababu stated that the YCP government increased alcohol rates significantly compared to the neighbouring states and still, liquor consumption increased among people.

“Even after liquor consumption increased, there was no income for the government because all that money went into the pockets of YCP leaders,” stated Chandrababu.

During YCP’s rule, all popular brands were banned and local liquor brands were introduced. “People eventually got addicted to these local brands. Alcohol leads to addiction. By making poor people addicted to the cheap local liquor, YCP leaders looted their hard-earned money and damaged their health as well,” Chandrababu added.

Chandrababu Naidu stated that there is a need to clean up the excise department. He said, “Apart from making alcohol affordable for poor people, we should also set up de-addiction centres across the state.”

Stating that various departments lost around Rs. 250 crores when their funds were allocated to the Excise department, Chandrababu Naidu asked MLAs and Ministers to give their inputs in setting things right in the Excise department in the coming days.

Chandrababu Naidu announced that the government will soon order a CID enquiry into Jagan’s liquor scam. He added that the government would also involve the Enforcement Directorate to investigate the case and take necessary action.
